A Day in the Life...
Meet Olivia — Globetrotter, Middle School Student
Olivia’s parents have a joint custody arrangement. In March her mother had the opportunity to move from California to Franklin, Tennessee for her dream job, so her parents have decided that they will rotate time with Olivia monthly. Galileo Prep offered the perfect solution for this. Olivia can participate in person as needed while visiting her mother in Franklin, and she can participate online as needed while visiting her father in California. This allows her to maintain her academic and social networks regardless of the physical distance she may have from the Franklin Galileo campus.
Because Olivia requires more support in math and science, she chooses to focus on those classes more while in Franklin. Because of the time zone difference in PST and CST, Olivia’s parents opted for the afternoon session with Galileo. This also leaves Friday afternoons open so that she can travel. When she isn’t traveling, she volunteers half a day at an animal shelter in Franklin.
Olivia will have either Leader in Me, Tennessee History, or Project Lead the Way that rotates quarterly. While in California with her dad, Olivia can log into live lessons to meet with teachers and peers, or she may use the schedule to work independently and stay on track. She and her advisor determine the exact schedule when Olivia meets 1:1 with her advisor every other week and with her advisement group on alternating weeks. Most importantly, this allows Olivia a voice in her
academics, time with each of her parents, and social activities in both California and Tennessee.
